FAQ
Why Colovaria?
Colovaria is the spell to change the color of something. It seemed a fitting name as the premise of the site is very much a changing wizarding world, and as both the moderator and I are coming from a background of being on the same site for years and trying something new, thus “changing our colors” so to speak.
So is this an AU?
Yes! Well, kind of. Things progressed more or less like they did in canon up until just after the Battle Of Hogwarts. Where things really start changing is now, with the introduction of werewolves and vampires to Hogwarts and a plotline that will focus on the aftereffects of one of the biggest wars in Wizarding History. How things really change and just how much an AU we become is in the end up to you, the players!
How is Hogwarts handling the vampires and werewolves in it’s care?
All werewolves attending Hogwarts are required to take the wolfsbane potion. The potions are administered by either Madam Pomfrey or the student’s Head of House as discreetly as possible for the safety of the afflicted students, because while some are certainly “out and proud” others still treat lycanthropy as a secret to be guarded fiercely. Full moons are spent in designated areas on the edge of the grounds that are strictly off limits to all other students.
Vampires are a little easier to deal with, as it’s as simple as keeping a supply of blood for each vampiric student. The supply is kept and managed by Madam Pomfrey and each vampire student has their own key so that only themselves and staff has access to it to prevent tampering by those who would rather they not be at Hogwarts. Vampires are strictly forbidden from feeding off fellow Hogwarts students. (This of course does not mean it won’t happen and it's absolutely not against any site rules, just Hogwarts ones.)
Can we have adult characters?
Absolutely! The more adults the merrier, whether they be Hogwarts staff members or just members of the wizarding community in general. We have a lot more student characters than adults currently, but that's always subject to change due to what you the players decide to create!
How does time pass on Colovaria?
Time passes quickly on the site and two weeks in real time equals roughly a month in game.
Hey, that faceclaim isn't/doesn't look 16/doesn't follow the -whatever/+whatever most sites use!
Yeah, we know. When 28 year olds can play 15 year olds on tv we're not going to fuss too much over whether or not they look super teenager-y or not. As long as you're not using someone who is very obviously middle aged or older as a teenager, we're just not going to sweat it that much. Plus time passes fairly quickly on this site, and we're hoping for some longevity. There's some characters I know I myself would like to keep playing without having to change their playby when they reach their post Hogwarts years.
How do open/closed threads work on Colovaria?
All threads by default are open! So if you see a thread that looks interesting go on and shove your character into it! If you'd like a thread to be closed to specific characters, you can of course make a note of it either in the title or the first post of the thread.
Can I make a suggestion?
Absolutely! I'm considering myself a newbie to this whole admin thing since I haven't done it in so long, so any suggestions you have feel free to either drop a line in this very thread or in a pm! The same goes for questions!
